The Exeter Union High School (EUHS) Symphonic Band, under the direction of music director Kirk Clague, received a “Superior” rating at the California Music Educators Band Festival in Porterville on March 2. The CMEA Festival, while not a true competition, allows high school bands to showcase their skills by playing three musical pieces. A rating of “Superior” is the highest rating a band can receive.
Clague also directed to EUHS’ Chamber Choir to a “Superior” rating at the CMEA Choir Festival at the First Christian church of Selma on March 7. The Concert Choir received a rating of “Excellent.” “Superior” and “Excellent” are the top two ratings given at CMEA music festivals. Elementary, middle and high schools from throughout the Central Valley came together to perform a broad variety of music. Each choir performs three songs for a panel of three judges, who assess their performance skills and musical ability.
The EUHS Winter Guard team is off to a great start in its winter performance season. The team received first place in the Silver division at the South Valley Winter Arts Association (SVWAA) competition held at Sierra Pacific High School in Hanford on Feb. 3. They competed against eight teams from high schools located in Visalia, Tulare, Hanford, and Orosi. EUHS Winter Guard received 3rd place at the SVWAA competition at El Diamante High School on Feb. 3. On March 2 they received 2nd place in the Bronze Division at the San Joaquin Valley Color Guard & Percussion Review held at Clovis North High School. There were 12 teams in their division from high schools throughout Fresno, Sanger, Kerman, and Riverdale.
