Special Education

Over 375 students qualify for special education and related services in The Exeter Unified School District (EUSD).  Our staff of teachers, instructional assistants, speech pathologists, mental health therapists, Registered Behavior Technicians, licensed school psychologists, and other related service specialists is dedicated to providing exceptional individualized services to students. According to both federal and state law, the goal of special education is to help students with disabilities become as independent as possible as they move through the grade levels. Our ultimate goal is to provide each of our students with CHOICE.  The choice and ability to go to a vocational school or a 2 or 4 year college program, become gainfully employed, and live independently after graduation.  The Special Education Department is not able to reach these goals alone. We value the partnerships we have built with our school sites, teachers, parents/guardians in this effort. 

The 2022-2023 school year saw many exciting advances in our department.  We purchased specialized curriculum for math, and reading both to close the gap and to address dyslexia.  We now have a Board approved alternative core for those students who are not able to be successful in the intensive intervention and general education curriculum.  Starting this year, we have a hybrid special day class for students grades TK-1 that allows our students with more significant needs to receive both small group intensive support and general education classes for half of the day each.  We are excited to provide this inclusive, intensive program for our students and we look forward to this school year.
