Curriculum and Instruction

Welcome to Exeter Unified School District’s Curriculum and Instruction Department.

Our mission is to provide a quality education for each and every student. To that end, the district is committed to a continual process of curriculum review and improvement. In addition, there is a high emphasis on professional learning for staff to support instruction in the classroom.

As we look to the future, we realize that teaching and learning must continually improve to meet new goals. Our graduates will need the knowledge and skills to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, innovators and effective communicators in the 21st century. With collaboration from parents, students, educators and the community, we look forward to the challenge.

School district curricula are continually changing as teachers and other staff members implement the latest developments and resources, realign course objectives to more closely match common core standards, or include new assessments.

Standards define what we want students to know and be able to do. We believe that curriculum, instruction, assessment, and feedback are interdependent. Curriculum addresses content as well as skills that we want students to develop by the time they leave a course or grade level. Instruction focuses on the way that we help children to address the standards and the benchmarks. The emphasis in the district is on research-based best practice or the best ways to be sure that all students learn. Assessment identifies where our students are in the learning continuum both during the instructional process and at its completion. Finally, feedback to our students, parents, and staff, provides the information necessary to meet our student’s needs.
