Foster and Homeless Youth Services

Exeter Unified School District ensures that students who lack food, clothing, hygiene and/or a regular or adequate place of residence are provided with the resources they need to be successful in school. This includes educational services that provide an equal opportunity to enroll in, attend, and be successful in school.

Homeless

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act defines homeless children and youth as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, including those who:

Share housing with other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason (sometimes referred to as doubled up).
Live in motels, hotels, emergency or transitional shelters, campgrounds, or trailer parks.
Live in a car, park, abandoned building, substandard housing, or other places not designed as a regular living accommodation.
Are unaccompanied youth or youth abandoned in hospitals or awaiting foster placement.
Migrant children living in circumstances described above.

We help students and families in transition with enrollment, staying in the school of origin, access to educational and transition services, transportation services (when appropriate), and with referrals to community resources.

All Set for School!

The return of children to school is a pivotal moment that underscores the importance of education in shaping the future of individuals and society at large. As children step back into the classroom, they are embarking on a journey of growth, discovery, and empowerment.
